A Great Gift to the City.

On July 4, 1919, The Winston-Salem Journal ran a front-page news announcement that a new public park, sports fields, adjacent high school and auditorium would soon be built thanks to generous donations by P.H. Hanes Sr., Mrs. R.J. Reynolds and the estate of John W. Hanes. These three community leaders came together to create what is today known as Hanes Park, R.J. Reynolds High School and Reynolds Auditorium.
